Strengthening Families Month

April is Strengthening Families Month!

Join us in promoting the safety and well-being of Montana's children and raising awareness about child abuse prevention. This month, communities across the state are coming together to strengthen families and build a brighter future for our kids.

Keep an eye out for blue pinwheels around Helena—how many can you find? Be sure to find the Early Childhood Collaborative's Pinwheel Pals, too! They are also a part of our Week of the Young Child festivities!

Click here to check out the digital scavenger hunt!

Visit DPHH’s website to learn more about events, resources, and ways to support Strengthening Families Month. Let’s grow stronger together!

Pinwheel Pal Scavenger Hunt
Apr

to Apr 30

Pinwheel Pal Scavenger Hunt

Can you find all the Pinwheel Pals? Join our digital scavenger hunt!

Pinwheel Pals are cardboard cut out dolls that appear in business windows during the month of April to raise awareness throughout our community about the importance of early childhood with facts in one hand and in the other a blue pinwheel that represents Strengthening Families Month.

The Early Childhood Collaborative wants you to find 16 Pinwheel Pals that are hanging out in downtown Helena. Match the fact on the Pinwheel Pal to the Beanstack Badge and tell us where you found the Pinwheel Pal. If you find all 16 Pinwheel Pals, you'll be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 Walmart gift card.

Click here to sign up for Beanstack and register for the challenge!

Self-Care Sunday for Loss Parents

You are still a parent even if you can’t hold your little one. There are many people who have experienced loss on their parenting journey, and we want to include all parents and caregivers in our Week of the Young Child.

While the title says “loss parents,” this event is open to families and any loved ones who want to participate.

We will paint rocks in honor of our little ones, as well as decorate planters and pot seeds or plants in them. You can take these home as a sweet reminder of your little one(s), symbolizing growth, love, and remembrance.

Car Seat Safety Class

This 1 hour class is led by a certified child passenger safety technician. There is time at the end of class for installations as needed. The instruction helps parents learn the basics of:

  • Choosing the right seat for your child and your budget.

  • Proper seat installation, including which position to use, the correct angle, and how to secure the seat.

  • Appropriately fitting your child to the seat, as this is more complex than simply following the height, weight, and age guidelines on the packaging.

Bring your safety seat to class! While installation is apart of the end of class, time will be available at the end to schedule an installation session with the instructor for a later date if needed or if you do not have a car seat with you.

Click here for more information and to register.

Note: Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) can provide car seats upon request through Lewis and Clark Public Health. Please make your request at least 2-3 weeks before the class to ensure availability on the link below. Car Seat Support Request Intake Form

Self-Love for Loss Parents

Self-Love for Loss Parents

Take time for yourself during our Self-Love for Loss Parents. This time offers space for people who have experienced loss on their parenting journey to focus on themselves and participate in a little self-care. We will create jars full of affirmations for you to take home so you can read those uplifting gentle reminders whenever you need a boost.

Does it sound overwhelming to come up with a jar full of nice things for yourself? Don’t worry, we will have some already created you can use, too.

Feel free to bring a friend! This loss event will be for adults. You could also come and make a jar for your friend who lost a baby, pregnancy, child.

We will be at the building that used to be the Pattern House, by the new food share building. It is an office building now but it is an awesome space.

What does “people who have experienced loss on their parenting journey” mean? Well, it is our way of trying to be inclusive. You are welcome if you are carrying grief around being a parent. If you are unsure if you “fit”, please feel free to reach out for some reassurance because if you want to come, then you fit.

Print or share our flyer.
